DaimlerChrysler Working With IMMR

Patent# 20070182718 - Operator control device

I was unable to locate the Assignee Name on the patent but a quick cross reference of the inventors listed on the patent found that they work for DaimlerChrysler in Germany.

The patent uses language referring to "haptic feedback" and goes into some detail about "haptic information which is based on vibrations". The images attached to the patent application are VERY interesting. Ironically they look a lot like an iPhone.

Now, I can’t say for certain that DaimlerChrysler is working with IMMR but when a company files a patent containing this type of language and competitors (Volkswagen, BMW, etc) are already working with IMMR it becomes very interesting.

More Evidence of Sony IMMR Support Coming Very Soon!

More evidence of Sony Rumble coming VERY soon as another VERY popular game will be released with rumble and force feedback support for the PS3. Specific reference is made to Logitech who licenses IMMR technology in their products.

Sony Rumble Confirmed !

"We can confirm that prototypes of the new rumble-enabled controllers have made their way to various Sony developers. Information on these controllers is still closely held by Sony and their partners, but an official announcement and unveiling is expected in the next two to three months. Leipzig (August 20-22) is the most obvious guess for this unveiling, but we believe Sony is going to withhold the controllers until they can launch them to coincide with support from enough developers."

IMMR in Volkswagens

Immersion and Siemens VDO Partner on Automotive Haptic Technology
http://immr.client.shareholder.com/ReleaseDetail.cfm?ReleaseID=111537

Well, it looks like this partnership is finally coming to fruition in the form of another potentially EXPLOSIVE revenue stream for IMMR. Looks like it’s going to start with Volkswagen and BMW (BMW link to follow in next post)!

“…it can warn the driver through a warning sound, by displaying a message on a head-up display or by haptic warning signals such as shaking the gas pedal or the steering wheel.”

“The research complements Volkswagen's catalog of camera-based driving functions presented recently during a congress on automotive electronics”

“…expects, however, the next vehicle generation to be equipped with the system.”

San Jose Mercury News Recomends iPhone Add IMMR

"The iPhone has just launched, but we can assume that Apple already is working on the next version of it. That's appropriate. The iPhone is a wonderful phone-music player hybrid but it's a product Apple should churn, not leave in the market unchanged. I'm no designer. But here are a few suggestions for what the next version of the hot Apple cell phone should include:"

"3. Force feedback technology. As I said before, iPhone users would have a much better time dialing and texting if they could only get some force feedback from the keypad. I know that Immersion, the force-feedback technology licensor based in San Jose, is a long jaunt from Cupertino. But I'll spring for the cab ride for Steve Jobs."

Item number three in this article specifically mentions Immersion. However, reading the whole article it's easy to imagine Immersions technology incorporated into other areas of suggested improvement for the iPhone.

New IMMR Patent

IMMR received a patent from the US Patent Office that sounds a LOT like the Sony patent mentioned on June 28, 2007. Interesting, isn't it?

More About Motorola and IMMR

The circumstantial evidence is overwhelming that such an announcement is immanent.

Vic mentioned in this quarter’s conference call that he expects AT LEAST one more major cell phone manufacturer to sign on with IMMR before the end of the year.

Review of new RAZR 2 line confirms haptic feedback from phones scheduled to launch THIS SUMMER!
http://www.phonescoop.com/articles/moto_razr2/index.php?p=2

Mr. Jack Saltich, Director of IMMR has held a number of engineering and operations management posts during a 17-year career at Motorola, culminating in his position as vice president and director of the company’s Advanced Product Research and Development Laboratory.
http://www.immersion.com/corporate/team.php#bod_jsaltich

Kind of ironic how all this is beginning to fit together, isn’t it?

I wonder when, or even if, we will get an IMMR press release on this. I’ve worked with companies in the past that due to confidentiality clauses in their contract were unable to publicly disclose a deal such as this. Time will tell. Either way, it’s going to be a monster revenue booster for IMMR in Q3 and beyond!

Motorola Working With IMMR

Here is a link to an independant review of the new Motorola RAZR-2 line of phones scheduled to be released THIS SUMMER. They include haptic feedback! I've included some quotes from the article below...
http://www.phonescoop.com/articles/moto_razr2/index.php?p=2

"The buttons let you interact with whatever function of the phone you may be using, and provide micro-vibration feedback (haptics) whenever pressed. The haptics worked well and we had no trouble determining when we had pressed any of the buttons."

"All three major versions of the RAZR 2 will launch at least somewhere in the world by the end of August, and are planned for release in the US by "the end of summer."

IMMR in BMW 5-Series

Immersion and Siemens VDO Partner on Automotive Haptic Technology
http://immr.client.shareholder.com/ReleaseDetail.cfm?ReleaseID=111537

Well, it looks like this partnership is finally coming to fruition in the form of another potentially EXPLOSIVE revenue stream for IMMR. Looks like it’s going to start with Volkswagen and BMW !

"By using tactile warnings, BMW's new lane departure warning system creates an intelligent rumble strip imitation that provides drivers with an advanced lane departure warning even when there are no physical strips on the shoulder of the road,”

“The BMW LDW vision system warns of potential lane departure by providing haptic warnings through simulated “rumble strip” vibration in the steering wheel.”

“The new feature can be ordered as an option in the new BMW 5 Series.”
